Campaign electSloan

Weekly Update

Sept. 6  2019

Last Week around H-L&A

We are looking forward to a very busy, exciting and positive fall Campaign!  We can expect the writ to be dropped between now and Sept. 15. Check out our sign-up form: https://www.electsloan.ca/volunteerWe’d love to have you join our fantastic team, helping Hastings, Lennox & Addington get ahead!

This past week I knocked on doors, sharing our party's positive message, in the village of Flinton in the municipality of Addington Highlands, on the beautiful Skootamatta River. Thanks for the conversations!

It was a real pleasure to visit the 7/62 Brewery in Madoc, which opened last weekend. Thanks to brewmaster Al Shaw for showing us around. Al and owner Scott Williams started as home brewers in a garage and took their passion for craft beer a step further, opening this great brewery and taproom in Centre Hastings. This is a great example of the power of entrepreneurship to enhance rural communities! If you're in Madoc, stop in and sample their wonderful product.

We also knocked on doors in the communities of Cannifton, Springbrook, Napanee and Newburgh with some of our team's dedicated volunteers. Thanks to everyone who shared their concerns with us! #victoryisknocking

Former Thurlow Town Hall on Cannifton Rd N.

I was happy to be able to visit the Marmora Fair - one of Hastings County's oldest agricultural fairs, held continuously at the Marmora Fair Grounds since its inaugural year in 1890. I had a chance to talk to local residents and watch some very talented riders taking their horses through their paces.

This was also a busy week on the homefront as we slipped in a quick family visit to Ottawa on the weekend, and our older two started school.

I hope to meet every one of you over the course of the campaign!  If you’d like to learn a bit more about me, and why I’m running, check out www.electsloan.ca/about_our_candidate, and please share this with your friends.

Our Napanee office at 21 Dundas Street W is up and running! We will be open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm; hours will increase once the writ is dropped and the official campaign begins. Drop in to say hello to our wonderful office manager Karen Hampel and our team of volunteers!

We are also excited to announce that we will be officially opening our campaign office at 1 Forsyth St. in Marmora on Thursday, Sept. 12 at 7:00 pm. Our Marmora location will serve voters in Hastings County during the election campaign. Join us!

During the election campaign, we will also be holding regular office hours in Bancroft once a week - we'll announce details on times and locations very soon.

New campaign lawn signs are in! If you want one for your property at election time, email us at info@electSloan.ca.

Upcoming events!

Kick-off the election in H-L&A with a Meet-the-Candidate BBQ!

Please join us for an important campaign fundraiser as we launch the 2019 Federal election!

The Election Writ is expected to drop on September 15, and we are marking the occasion with a major campaign social event to be held at the Napanee Rod & Gun Club. We’re holding an informal BBQ on the club’s beautiful property, where I hope to have the opportunity to meet and talk with you. For those interested, the club will offer an introduction to trap shooting on its state-of-the-art range.

The Napanee Rod & Gun Club is committed to conservation in Hastings-Lennox & Addington, and has been instrumental in an ongoing effort to develop the local fish hatchery. It has been running this project at Springside Park in Napanee, where both rainbow & brown trout eggs (and, in the past, walleye) are raised. Over the past few years this effort has produced well over a million fry to help stock local lakes and streams with fingerlings.

The cost of a ticketis $150 and $120 of that is eligible for a tax credit of up to 75% on your 2019 federal income tax return. All the money raised at this event will stay right here in Hastings-Lennox & Addington and will help us run an effective election campaign this fall.

Join us--have fun, meet some great people, and support Campaign ElectSloan's efforts to help Hastings-Lennox & Addington get ahead!

Victory is Knocking!  We'll be canvassing in multiple locations next week - if you can help, email us at info@electSloan.ca or call us at (343) 645-5492. No experience is necessary; we will give you training on our simple canvassing strategy, and you will be paired up with an experienced campaigner. All are welcome, and remember, “Victory is Knocking”! We are also starting our telephone canvassing campaign this week - if you can help us by phoning prospective supporters, please contact us.

Join our fantastic team!

We’d love to have you join us, helping H-L&A to get ahead! This is crucial to turning this riding blue in October.  We need door canvassers, phone canvassers, lawn sign distributers (we need one in each municipality), election day & advance poll scrutineers and volunteer drivers.  This is a winnable riding, but we will only succeed with an army of volunteers!  To sign up, drop by our Napanee office (21 Dundas St. W.), email us at info@electsloan.ca, call 343-645-5492 or sign up online at www.electsloan.ca/volunteer

We're hiring... Do you know someone looking for part-time work?  We'd like to hire someone to help with  campaign-related activities between now and the election. For more information, email info@electsloan.ca.  Requirements include mobility, and a friendly and engaging attitude.

Help us get our message out!

It's important that friends and supporters of our campaign and our party spread the news about what we are doing. As the election gets closer, it becomes increasingly challenging to cut through the noise in the press and social media. You can help us by following our campaign on social media and reposting our material on your own accounts so your followers get our message. You can also help make sure our side is heard in the debate by writing letters to the editor in your local press. If you do write something or see something in local media that we can share, email us a link at info@electsloan.ca

Help us meet people in your community!  Starting in September, I'll be travelling around the riding, holding "meet & greets" in as many communities as I can. You can help!  If you would like to host a small get-together to provide an opportunity for me to meet your friends and neighbours, or know a place in your community where we can meet local residents, send us an email at info@electsloan.ca

Update from the national party

The Party has now released more specifics on the Conservative platform. In a series of speeches called “My Vision for Canada,” Andrew Scheer has addressed Foreign Policy, the Economy, Immigration, Confederation and the Environment.  You can watch and read these speeches at www.myvisionforcanada.ca.

You can also follow the CPC Facebook page, or Andrew Scheer’s page for national updates.

This past week, the Toronto Star interviewed Andrew Scheer, as part of its “Passion to Lead” series.  In typical fashion, Andrew was confident, humble, genuine and extremely knowledgeable.  Check out the full interview, or another Star piece, “Andrew Scheer, in his own words: ‘Young families are the future of our country’.”

Keep an eye out for new promotions unveiling the Conservative campaign and platform for this election. Conservatives will focus on policies that will put more money in your pocket and that will help ordinary Canadians. The SNC-Lavalin scandal has highlighted Mr. Trudeau’s focus on helping Liberal insiders, and on punishing those who criticize his actions: it’s time for a Conservative government that works for you, and helps you get ahead!

Join the Victory Club!

We are thrilled to announce that we now have over 50 Victory Club members!!  Join us today to help us reach our next level target of 100 members. Victory Club is a program that goes a long way towards reaching our fundraising target and giving us the necessary tools to run a successful campaign. Our target can be reached if only 250 people donate $400.  A $400 donation costs you only $100 out-of-pocket after the generous tax credit! And remember, every eligible member of your household can donate separately and join our Victory Club. We recently had a husband and wife donate $400 each--$800 for the campaign and only $200 out-of-pocket for them! See below for donation info.

Donations

As always, we are grateful for your support for this Campaign and we will keep working together to spread our positive Conservative vision for Canada and for Hastings—Lennox & Addington. Donations of any amount are always welcome: When you give to our local Conservative association (up to the 2019 max. of $1600), that money stays right here in HLA, and up to 75% of your donation could be eligible for a tax credit on your 2019 tax return.  We can accept donations from Canadian individuals only (not from corporations or businesses). Cheques should be made payable to H-L&A Conservative Association and sent to PO Box 111, Madoc, Ontario, K0K 2K0. We cannot accept cash or credit card information through the mail; however, you can donate online at: www.electsloan.ca/donate.

With thanks,

Derek Sloan
