Campaign Update Sept. 14

September 13, 2019

It’s GO TIME!

The Election Campaign officially began last Wednesday, and we are busier than ever, putting up signs and knocking on doors all across beautiful Hastings-Lennox & Addington!  We’re excited about our official kick-off and fundraiser this Sunday, Sept. 15--a BBQ & trap-shoot event at Napanee’s Rod and Gun Club (see below for details).

On Wednesday, I shared the following Statement on social media, announcing the start of the campaign.

This is an exciting day for Canada as Election 2019 kicks off!

Since January, I have been knocking on thousands of doors, visiting numerous small businesses, and meeting with leaders of every municipality in this beautiful riding of Hastings-Lennox & Addington. The overriding concern from voters is clear. Whether it is constantly rising taxes, or increasing Government bureaucracy, it is just getting tougher to get ahead these days.

Andrew Scheer and a Conservative Government is offering this country honest leadership and a fresh vision to help you get ahead.

As your representative in Ottawa, I will focus on you, your family and our communities. I will put forward positive, practical solutions to your concerns. Together we can lower taxes, cut bureaucracy and make Hastings-Lennox & Addington a better place for everyone.

For a more secure future, vote Conservative on October 21.

If you would like to help our efforts you can do so by donating at www.electsloan.ca/donate. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer you can sign up at www.electsloan.ca/volunteer.

At your service,
Derek Sloan

Last week around H-L&A

On Thursday night more than two dozen people attended the official opening of Campaign Sloan's office in Marmora.

We were honoured to welcome dignitaries from the area--MPP Daryl Kramp, Marmora and Lake Mayor Jan O'Neill, Centre Hastings Mayor Tom Deline, Tweed Mayor Joanne Albert, and Belleville Mayor Mitch Panciuk.

The office at 1 Forsyth Street in Marmora is the second for the Sloan campaign and will be open to Hastings County residents two days a week during the federal election campaign.  (In addition to the offices in Napanee and Marmora, Derek will spend time in Bancroft each week.)

What an honour to welcome these municipal leaders, and to receive the enthusiastic endorsement of Belleville Mayor Mitch Panciuk.

At the office opening, I was happy to share with the crowd a bit about my family and why I'm running as a Conservative

We continue to meet with small businesses across H-L&A.
Over lunch at the By The Way Café in Tweed, I met Sandor Johnson, owner of Tweed's award-winning Potter Settlement Wines Inc. We had a long conversation about how regressive taxation and red tape create barriers for small businesses, especially in the wine industry. Thanks for sharing your insight, Sandor! And thank you to By the Way for some of the most delicious berry pie I’ve ever tasted!

While I was in Tweed on our Hwy 37 Road Trip, I stopped in to visit Martin Bell, owner of the Bunk Bed Shack. Martin has created a small business making bunk beds for cottagers from locally-sourced lumber. This is another example of the importance of entrepreneurs to the health of rural economies. Thanks for the tour, Martin!

Our terrific, hardworking teams knocked on doors in Belleville, Foxboro, Napanee, Actinolite, Roblin and Selby this past week! We’d love to have you join us! #victoryisknocking

Stopped in for a delicious fall supper at Emmanuel United Church in Foxboro

I hope to meet every one of you over the course of the campaign! If you’d like to learn a bit more about me, and why I’m running, check out www.electsloan.ca/about_our_candidate, and please share this with your friends.

Our Napanee office at 21 Dundas Street W is up and running! We will be open Monday to Friday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Drop in to say hello to our wonderful office manager Karen Hampel and our team of volunteers!

During the election campaign, our Marmora location (1 Forsyth St.) will serve voters in Hastings County; we also plan to be in Bancroft every Wednesday afternoon.

New campaign lawn signs are in! If you want one for your property, email us at info@electSloan.ca, or order one online at www.electsloan.ca/lawn_sign.

Upcoming events!

KICK-OFF THE ELECTION WITH A MEET-THE-CANDIDATE BBQ & TRAP SHOOT!
Please join us for an important campaign fundraiser as we launch the 2019 Federal election! ElectSloan is kicking off the election campaign with a major campaign social event to be held at the Napanee Rod & Gun Club. We’re holding an informal BBQ on the club’s beautiful property, where you will have the opportunity to meet the Conservative candidate for Hastings-Lennox & Addington, Derek Sloan. For those interested, the club will offer an introduction to trap shooting on its state-of-the-art range.

The Napanee Rod & Gun Club is committed to conservation in Hastings-Lennox & Addington, and has been instrumental in an ongoing effort to develop the local fish hatchery. It has been running this project at Springside Park in Napanee, where both rainbow & brown trout eggs (and, in the past, walleye) are raised. Over the past few years this effort has produced well over a million fry to help stock local lakes and streams with fingerlings.

The cost of a ticket is $150 and $120 of that is eligible for a tax credit of up to 75% on your 2019 federal income tax return. All the money raised at this event will stay right here in Hastings-Lennox & Addington and will help us run an effective election campaign this fall.

No experience is necessary; we will give you training on our simple canvassing strategy, and you will be paired up with an experienced campaigner. Join our fantastic team!

We’d love to have you join us, helping H-L&A to get ahead! This is crucial to turning this riding blue in October. We need door canvassers, phone canvassers, lawn sign distributers (we need one in each municipality), election day & advance poll scrutineers and volunteer drivers. This is a winnable riding, but we will only succeed with an army of volunteers! To sign up, drop by our Napanee office (21 Dundas St. W.), email us at info@electsloan.ca, call 343-645-5492 or sign up online at www.electsloan.ca/volunteer.

We're hiring...
Do you know someone looking for part-time work? We'd like to hire someone to help with campaign-related activities between now and the election. For more information, email info@electsloan.ca. Requirements include mobility, and a friendly and engaging attitude.

Help us get our message out!

It's important that friends and supporters of our campaign and our party spread the news about what we are doing. As the election gets closer, it becomes increasingly challenging to cut through the noise in the press and social media. You can help us by following our campaign on social media and reposting our material on your own accounts so your followers get our message. You can also help make sure our side is heard in the debate by writing letters to the editor in your local press. If you do write something or see something in local media that we can share, email us a link at info@electsloan.ca

Help us meet people in your community!

Starting in September, I'll be travelling around the riding, holding "meet & greets" in as many communities as I can. You can help! If you would like to host a small get-together to provide an opportunity for me to meet your friends and neighbours, or know a place in your community where we can meet local residents, send us an email at info@electsloan.ca

Update from the national party

The Party has now released more specifics on the Conservative platform. In a series of speeches called “My Vision for Canada,” Andrew Scheer has addressed Foreign Policy, the Economy, Immigration, Confederation and the Environment. You can watch and read these speeches at www.myvisionforcanada.ca. You can also follow the CPC Facebook page, or Andrew Scheer’s page for national updates.

One practical plan that will help our environment AND remote communities:
Canada is home to one of the cleanest electrical grids in the entire world; more than 80% of our power comes from renewable sources. But there are approximately 220,000 Canadians living in remote communities that rely on expensive locally produced power that can be harmful to the environment.

Keep an eye out for new promotions unveiling the Conservative campaign and platform for this election. Conservatives will focus on policies that will put more money in your pocket and that will help ordinary Canadians. The SNC-Lavalin scandal has highlighted Mr. Trudeau’s focus on helping Liberal insiders, and on punishing those who criticize his actions: it’s time for a Conservative government that works for you, and helps you get ahead!

Join the Victory Club!

We are thrilled to announce that we now have over 50 Victory Club members!! Join us today to help us reach our next level target of 100 members.

Victory Club is a program that goes a long way towards reaching our fundraising target and giving us the necessary tools to run a successful campaign. Our target can be reached if only 250 people donate $400. A $400 donation costs you only $100 out-of-pocket after the generous tax credit! And remember, every eligible member of your household can donate separately and join our Victory Club. We recently had a husband and wife donate $400 each--$800 for the campaign and only $200 out-of-pocket for them! See below for donation info.

Donations

As always, we are grateful for your support for this Campaign and we will keep working together to spread our positive Conservative vision for Canada and for Hastings—Lennox & Addington. Donations of any amount are always welcome: When you give to our local Conservative association (up to the 2019 max. of $1600), that money stays right here in H-L&A, and up to 75% of your donation could be eligible for a tax credit on your 2019 tax return.

We can accept donations from Canadian individuals only (not from corporations or businesses). Cheques should be made payable to Derek Sloan Campaign and sent to PO Box 111, Madoc, Ontario, K0K 2K0. We cannot accept cash or credit card information through the mail; however, you can donate online at: www.electsloan.ca/donate.

At your service,

Derek Sloan
