Campaign electSloan Weekly Update

June 4 2019

Last Week around H-L&A

We were knocking on doors on Sunday in the beautiful town of Tweed with our team of dedicated volunteers. We had fantastic weather and a great response at the doors. Thanks to everyone who chatted with us!

Canvassing in Tweed

While in Tweed, I stopped at Stoco Lake to share my thoughts on the Carbon Tax. I'll be recording a series of videos on a number of policy issues over the next few months - I'll post them on our Facebook page and include links in our weekly email updates. (We've ordered a better microphone so our future videos will have improved sound quality.) Check it out at the link below:

Thank you to Jaymee Davis of Bath for organizing the 2019 Promise Walk for Pre-eclampsia and inviting my family!  As a dad to 3 little ones and husband to Jenn who is a Nurse Practitioner, this cause is close my heart.

The Promise Walk is the single most important fundraising initiative for the Pre-eclampsia Foundation Canada to support their mission to reduce maternal and infant illness and death due to pre-eclampsia, HELLP Syndrome and other hypertensive disorders of pregnancy through patient education, public awareness and research.

Upcoming events

MP Ed Fast will be visiting our riding this Thursday June 6. Mr. Fast is the MP for Abbotsford and the Shadow Minister for Environment and Climate Change and we are looking forward to hearing about our party’s positive and effective plans for conservation and protecting our environment! We will be hosting a reception for Mr. Fast at the Lions Club in Napanee from 6:30 to 9:30 pm.

Get your tickets at www.electsloan.ca/fast, and invite a friend--especially one who is concerned about environmental protections and climate change. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door.  This event is being run on a cost-recovery basis.

We will also welcome MP Blake Richards (Banff-Airdrie) to our riding on June 16; we'll be hosting a reception for him at 6:00 pm at the Signal Brewery in Corbyville.  Mr. Richards is the Shadow Minister for Small Business, Export Promotion and Tourism, and has been recognized three times over as the Hardest Working and Best Constituency MP in The Hill Times' Annual Survey!  He is also known as a vocal advocate for victims of crime. Everyone is welcome!

Canvassing this week

We will be canvassing in Northbrook this Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00.  Meet us in the parking lot of the Foodland grocery store at 12258 Hwy 41.  No experience is necessary; we will give you training on our simple canvassing strategy, and you will be paired up with an experienced campaigner. All are welcome! Email us at info@electSloan.ca if you can join us.

Update from the national Conservative Party

We are very excited about the upcoming campaign, and to help us share our message, our party is releasing details of the Conservative election platform over the next few weeks.  In a series of speeches called “My Vision for Canada”, Andrew Scheer has addressed Foreign Policy, the Economy and Immigration.  (Still to come: Confederation, and the Environment.)

In his most recent speech “Immigration: Unity in Diversity,” Andrew shares his personal connection with this issue and lays out a positive plan for a “fair, orderly and compassionate” system for Immigration and Refugees.

In an excerpt from that speech, Mr. Scheer said, “Diversity is the result of our strength. And our strength is and always has been our freedom.  And that freedom is based on the institutions and principles that we hold so dear and that we must ensure are protected. The reason why so many people from around the world are able to be treated equally, practice their faith, pass on their customs and traditions, is because ours is a society based on the equality of all human beings.”

You can watch or read more of this important speech here:  https://myvisionforcanada.ca/immigration/

Volunteer!

As many of you know, H-L&A is considered a “swing riding” as it was won by only a few hundred votes in 2015. We are very confident we will turn it blue this fall--but we need all hands on deck in order to do so!

We have secured campaign office space in Napanee and will be opening sometime around Canada Day--stay tuned!  Of course there will be lots of office volunteer positions available; email us at info@electSloan.ca if you're interested in helping with the campaign. We have a job for every skill set - there is a lot to be done!

Follow us on social media!

We are sharing information about our campaign on social media with news and timely updates on the campaign activities and events, as well as communications from our party and our leader, Andrew Scheer. Follow us and share our content with your friends! You can stay up-to-date on our Facebookpage https://www.facebook.com/ElectSloanHLA on Twitter at https://twitter.com/DerekSloanCPC, and on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/electsloan.

Join the Victory Club!

To reach our goal of being election-ready, we are launching Victory Club, a program that will go a long way towards reaching our fundraising target and will give us the necessary tools to run a successful campaign. Our target can be reached if only 250 people donate $400.  A $400 donation costs you only $100 out-of-pocket after the generous tax credit! And remember, every eligible member of your household can donate separately and join our Victory Club. We recently had a husband and wife donate $400 each--$800 for the campaign and only $200 out-of-pocket for them! See below for donation info.

Donate!

As always, we are grateful for your support for this Campaign and we will keep working together to spread our positive Conservative vision for Canada and for Hastings—Lennox & Addington. Donations of any amount are always welcome: When you give to our local Conservative association (up to the 2019 max. of $1600), that money stays right here in HLA, and up to 75% of your donation could be eligible for a tax credit on your 2019 tax return.  We can accept donations from Canadian individuals only (not from corporations or businesses). Cheques should be made payable to H-L&A Conservative Association and sent to PO Box 111, Madoc, Ontario, K0K 2K0. We cannot accept cash or credit card information through the mail; however, you can donate online at: www.electsloan.ca/donate.

With thanks,
