electSloan Weekly Update
February 27 2019
Last Week around HLA…
Derek Sloan attended several community events last weekend: “Many Voices, One Heart” was an event in Napanee that focused on Reconciliation and Relationships with our Indigenous neighbours. The presentations were excellent, and Chief Don Maracle of the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte gave a fascinating historical overview. Then on Saturday Derek and friends walked in the Coldest Night walk in support of Napanee’s Morningstar Mission. Morningstar is an amazing place that offers many services and support to those facing homelessness, addiction and poverty. The amazing community of Napanee raised over $30,000—more than Kingston and Belleville combined! This was a great opportunity to meet some of the leaders there and to learn more about the challenges people are facing in our rural riding.
Team electSloan was also in Amherstview last weekend knocking on doors. This is always a great chance to get to know our riding better and raise awareness of our candidate and the strength of our vision. This year we have knocked on almost 1000 doors in communities across the riding, and we have plans to visit every corner of H-L&A in the next few months.
Meetings with municipal leaders continued; Derek met with Belleville City Councillors Paul Carr & Bill Sandison this past week--there was a great discussion on the challenges & opportunities in Belleville Ward 2 (Thurlow).
Join the Victory Club!
To reach our goal of being election-ready, we are launching Victory Club, a program that will go a long way towards reaching our fundraising target and will give us the necessary tools to run a successful campaign. Our target can be reached if only 250 people donate $400. A $400 donation costs you only $100 out-of-pocket after the generous tax credit! We recently had a husband and wife donate $400 each--$800 for the campaign and only $200 out-of-pocket for them! Watch your inbox and Facebook for more details. We now have 10 Victory Club members, and the number is climbing almost every day! See below for donation info.
This weekend, March 2 & 3, Team electSloan will be canvassing in Odessa. Please join us from 2:00 to 5:00—we will meet at 2:00 on both Saturday and Sunday in the parking lot of Odessa Public School, 10 North St, Odessa. No experience is necessary; we will give you training on our simple canvassing strategy, and you will be paired up with an experienced campaigner. All are welcome! Email us at info@electSloan.ca if you can join us.
As always, we are grateful for your support for this Campaign and we will keep working together to spread our positive Conservative vision for Canada and for Hastings—Lennox & Addington. Donations of any amount are always welcome: When you give to our local Conservative association (up to the 2019 max. of $1600), that money stays right here in HLA, and up to 75% of your donation could be eligible for a tax credit on your 2019 tax return. We can accept donations from Canadian individuals only (not from corporations or businesses). Cheques should be made payable to H-L&A Conservative Association and sent to PO Box 111, Madoc, Ontario, K0K 2K0. We cannot accept cash or credit card information through the mail; however, you can donate online at: www.hlaconservative.ca/donate.
