Campaign electSloan Weekly Update
April 9 2019
Last Week around H-L&A
Our terrific Super Canvass team enjoyed knocking on doors in the beautiful town of Bath last weekend! I also canvassed in Cannifton during the week. We had many good conversations—it’s clear that many people in our riding are ready for a change in government.
Knocking on doors in Bath
One of the biggest concerns we hear from people in our riding is the carbon tax. This week I met a farmer in our riding who has a large livestock operation. His propane bill jumped by $20,000 dollars a year with the implementation of the carbon tax, and he is taxed on fuel consumed by the licenced trucks that carry his products from his farm to market. None of these expenses are exempt from the new carbon tax. We are very concerned both about the sustainability of these farms, and about the costs that will inevitably be passed on to consumers. The following fuel uses are not exempt: barn heating for any purpose; crop drying; and residential heating and fuel that is used in licensed vehicles. There is also no tax rebate on propane for farm use (with the exception of greenhouse operations).
And of course, it’s not just farmers that are concerned—we know that a $307 individual rebate is not going to cover all of the increased expenses that will disproportionately affect low- and middle-income earners in our riding, as well as small businesses.
On April 4, my Campaign Manager Eric Lorenzen and I were honoured to attend the Canadian Jewish Political Affairs Committee's Action 19 party in Toronto. I enjoyed meeting members of Ontario's Jewish community and networking with political leaders. One of the many reasons I’m so proud to be a Conservative is because of our Party’s strong support for Israel and the Canadian Jewish community. Interested in reading more? Check out this article by Linda Frum, “The Conservative Party’s record on Israel is clear”.

I also had the opportunity to visit Napanee & District’s Rod & Gun Club to connect with firearms owners and sport shooters in our riding who are very concerned about Bill C-71. Thanks to Brian Calver for arranging the visit!

Plans are moving forward for our event with MP Michelle Rempel! Join us on Friday, May 3 from 6pm - 9pm at the Royal Canadian Legion in Napanee, 26 Mill St East.
Ms. Rempel is the Conservative MP for Calgary Nose Hill and the Shadow Minister for Citizenship and Immigration. She has been extremely dynamic and effective in Question Period: one of the issues on which she has been most active is border security, and the need to preserve a Canadian system of immigration that is orderly, fair and compassionate. During her visit, Ms Rempel plans to meet with several community groups that work with refugees.
Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door and can be purchased at www.electsloan.ca/events. (This event is being run on a cost-recovery basis.) Please bring a friend!

We’re pleased to announce that Conservative MP Ed Fast will be visiting our riding on June 13! Mr. Fast is the MP for Abbotsford, British Columbia, and is the Shadow Minister for Environment and Climate Change. Looking forward to hearing about the Party’s positive and effective plans for conservation and protecting our environment! Stay tuned for more details.

We will be canvassing in Amherstview this Sunday afternoon (April 14) from 2:00 to 5:00. Would you join us to knock on doors? We will meet in the parking lot of Amherstview Public School, 70 Fairfield Blvd. Remember, no experience is necessary; we will give you training on our simple canvassing strategy, and you will be paired up with an experienced campaigner. All are welcome! Email us at info@electSloan.ca if you can join us.
Join the Victory Club!
To reach our goal of being election-ready, we are launching Victory Club, a program that will go a long way towards reaching our fundraising target and will give us the necessary tools to run a successful campaign. Our target can be reached if only 250 people donate $400. A $400 donation costs you only $100 out-of-pocket after the generous tax credit! And remember, every eligible member of your household can donate separately and join our Victory Club. We recently had a husband and wife donate $400 each--$800 for the campaign and only $200 out-of-pocket for them! See below for donation info.
As always, we are grateful for your support for this Campaign and we will keep working together to spread our positive Conservative vision for Canada and for Hastings—Lennox & Addington. Donations of any amount are always welcome: When you give to our local Conservative association (up to the 2019 max. of $1600), that money stays right here in HLA, and up to 75% of your donation could be eligible for a tax credit on your 2019 tax return. We can accept donations from Canadian individuals only (not from corporations or businesses). Cheques should be made payable to H-L&A Conservative Association and sent to PO Box 111, Madoc, Ontario, K0K 2K0. We cannot accept cash or credit card information through the mail; however, you can donate online at: www.electsloan.ca/donate.
