Weekly Update

Last Week around H-L&A

Knocked on doors in the beautiful communities of Amherstview and Marmora this past week--hearing from a lot of people that it’s time for a change in Ottawa!

Enjoyed beautiful weather and friendly conversations at the Napanee fair on the long weekend!  This terrific event highlights the importance of agriculture in our riding, and the vital role played by community organizations like the Lennox Agricultural Society.

We took the opportunity to shoot a video at the Fair--just to give you a sense of the event and our conversations there. Hearing a lot about the need for government to support local businesses and entrepreneurs instead of putting up obstacles. Great opportunity to share our positive Conservative vision for the economy!

It was a real pleasure to talk to MP Lisa Raitt at Bay of Quinte's Aug. 2 Fireside Chat" event in Belleville. Thanks for your insight into the upcoming election campaign, Lisa, and thanks to Tim Durkin & Bay of Quinte for hosting this great evening!

My wife Jenn and I also had a chance to catch up with H-L&A MPP Daryl Kramp and his wife Carol Ann that evening.

Our Napanee campaign office at 21 Dundas Street W is up and running! We will be open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday during the summer from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm; hours will increase in September. Drop in to say hello to our wonderful office manager Karen Hampeland our team of volunteers!

Upcoming events

We'll be canvassing in multiple locations next week - if you can help, email us at info@electSloan.ca or call us at (343) 645-5492. No experience is necessary; we will give you training on our simple canvassing strategy, and you will be paired up with an experienced campaigner. All are welcome, and remember, “Victory is Knocking”! We are also starting our telephone canvassing campaign this week - if you can help us by phoning prospective supporters, please contact us.

One of our major campaign events this summer will take place on Aug. 21 and 22 where we'll appear at the Hastings County Plowing Match & Farm Show at the farm of Brian & April Thompson at 1207 Sills Rd. in Centre Hastings (near Tweed). For more information, check their website: https://hastingsfarmshow.ca. We will be working with the Bay of Quinte Conservatives to set up a large tent with free cold water & popcorn, and live music. This event brings out thousands of visitors from both H-L&A and Bay of Quinte ridings. We’d love to see you there--stop by and meet our local Conservative candidates! If you’d like to help out at this fun event, please email info@electsloan.ca.

Save the Date!  We'll be holding a major fundraiser on Sunday September 15 at the Napanee Rod & Gun Club. Join us for an afternoon of trap-shooting and fellowship, and help support my election campaign at the same time! We'll have more details soon on our website and in our next Weekly Update.

Meet Rob Planetta, ElectSloan volunteer!

Rob has been one of our most dedicated volunteers.  We asked him to tell us a bit about himself, and why he is volunteering for Campaign ElectSloan. Thank you, Rob!!

My name is Rob Planetta; I was born and raised in the Maritimes and enlisted in the Canadian military at the age of 17. After serving 32 years, I retired in 2015 and live in the village of Yarker with my wife of 28 years, Kimberly. We have 3 daughters aged 19, 21 and 24. I am usually seen around town with my buddy, Dobby (our 4-year old chihuahua).

I enjoy volunteering my time to help Derek Sloan with his campaign because I believe his education, dedication to family values and his strong focus on representing the people of his riding--and not just the political party--results in a strong, honest and transparent candidate.

Derek has worked tirelessly canvassing in all communities, and making himself available to speak at various events within the riding.

For the enrichment of our communities, I believe we need more politicians like Derek, who have a strong, clear vision moving forward.

Join our fantastic team!

We’d love to have you join our team! Your help is crucial to turning this riding blue in October. We need door canvassers, phone canvassers, lawn sign distributers (we need one in each municipality), election day & advance poll scrutineers and volunteer drivers. This is a winnable riding, but we will only succeed with an army of volunteers! To sign up, drop by our Napanee office (21 Dundas St. W.), email us at info@electsloan.ca or call 343-645-5492.

Help us get our message out!

It's important that friends and supporters of our campaign and our party spread the news about what we are doing. As the election gets closer, it becomes increasingly challenging to cut through the noise in the press and social media. You can help us by following our campaign on social media and reposting our material on your own accounts so your followers get our message. You can also help make sure our side is heard in the debate by writing letters to the editor in your local press. If you do write something or see something in local media that we can share, email us a link at info@electsloan.ca.

Help us meet people in your community!

Starting in September, I'll be travelling around the riding, holding "meet & greets" in as many communities as I can. You can help!  If you would like to host a small get-together to provide an opportunity for me to meet your friends and neighbours, or know a place in your community where we can meet local residents, send us an email at info@electsloan.ca

Update from the national Party

Both the Conservative Party and Andrew Scheer have Facebook pages, featuring excellent videos, updates and news items.  Here is a recent video of Andrew Scheer discussing healthcare funding in an impromptu conversation with Adina from Toronto.

The Party has now released more specifics on the Conservative platform. In a series of speeches called “My Vision for Canada,” Andrew Scheer has addressed Foreign Policy, the Economy, Immigration, Confederation and the Environment.  You can watch and read these speeches at www.myvisionforcanada.ca.

Join the Victory Club!

We are thrilled to announce that we now have 50 Victory Club members!!  Join us today to help us reach our next level target of 100 members. Victory Club is a program that goes a long way towards reaching our fundraising target and giving us the necessary tools to run a successful campaign. Our target can be reached if only 250 people donate $400.  A $400 donation costs you only $100 out-of-pocket after the generous tax credit! And remember, every eligible member of your household can donate separately and join our Victory Club. We recently had a husband and wife donate $400 each--$800 for the campaign and only $200 out-of-pocket for them! See below for donation info.

Donations

As always, we are grateful for your support for this Campaign and we will keep working together to spread our positive Conservative vision for Canada and for Hastings—Lennox & Addington. Donations of any amount are always welcome: When you give to our local Conservative association (up to the 2019 max. of $1600), that money stays right here in HLA, and up to 75% of your donation could be eligible for a tax credit on your 2019 tax return. We can accept donations from Canadian individuals only (not from corporations or businesses). Cheques should be made payable to H-L&A Conservative Association and sent to PO Box 111, Madoc, Ontario, K0K 2K0. We cannot accept cash or credit card information through the mail; however, you can donate online at: www.electsloan.ca/donate.

With thanks,

Derek Sloan
